Schaller LockMeister®6 Tremolo – beyond your expectations

 LockMeister_6_247

Since its debut in 2012, the Schaller LockMeister-Tremolo became the most advanced locking tremolo. Just as we developed it decades ago for the US guitar industry and have been manufacturing here ever since: 100 % genuinely Made in Germany  design, engineering and production!

With the 2023 upgrade of the LockMeister 6, our research & development department has expanded the performance of the system to include 2 new Pitch Perfect FeaturesWhereas previously only 10″ locking nuts and 12″ tremolos were available, there are now 5 different locking nut (R2/R3) and 4 different tremolo radii to choose from. In 2025 we also extended fine tuning screw M5 x 10, to enable a wider tuning range. The first double-locking tremolo on the market, that allowed individual adjustment to different fretboards, whether straight or compound radius: improved to the next level!

Convince yourself of the authenticity: The back of the base plate is engraved with our famous Schaller S-signet and guarantees you 100% Made in Germany.

The flowing transition from a strongly curved fingerboard in the lower registers to a flatter radius in the higher registers can now be realized exclusively with the new LockMeister system.

Choose between the following radius options in our configurator:

4 x tremolo radii: 10″, 12″, 14″ and 16″

5 x locking nut radii: 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″ and 16″

Also new: extended fine tuning screws

The extended thread length of the M5 x 10 fine tuning screw (instead of M5 x 8) with its flat threaded tip also enables a wider tuning range.

Pitch perfect features: exclusively since 2023 for the LockMeister® 6

  • New height-adjusted one-piece string saddles: no more shims needed between saddle and baseplate.
  • Fully closed string saddles on the bottom for optimum hold and contact to the baseplate: falling out saddle cover plates are history.
  • The extended thread length of the fine-tuner screw delivers a wider tuning range.
  • Improved locking nut and tailpiece shapes with a greater variety of radii.
  • For longer playing time without retuning

 Technical specifications

  • Baseplate, saddles and locking nut from hardened steel
  • Distance height adjustment screws: 74.3 mm according to international standards (sometimes only 74mm, it is identical)
  • Size press-in bushing: 10 mm
  • String spacing E-e: 54 mm
  • Slideway intonation 8.5 mm
  • Weight: 442 g with block length 37 mm
  • Weight only Tremoloblock: 32mm (101 g), 37mm (119 g), 42mm (135g)
  • Maximum string gauge: 0.080" / 2,03 mm
  • Tremolo radii: 10", 12", 14" and 16"
  • Tremolo block: with 3 fixing screws at a distance of 17 mm, material brass.
  • Locking nut: in the radii 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″ and 16″ and in widths R2 (41.4 mm) and R3 (42.9 mm), CNC-milled from one-piece steel.
  • The bottom of the saddles are marked with dots like a dice. They are mounted on the baseplate from the outside to the inside with increasing numerical values, from which the radius results. There is always no dot on the outside for the E/e string saddles. The strings A/b, for example, could have one dot and the two inner saddles D/G two dots.
  •  The extended thread length of the fine-tuner screw delivers a wider tuning range.

    Scope of supply

    • 1 x locking nut complete with 2 pairs of mounting screws
    • 1 x string retainer with mounting screws 2.2 x 16 mm
    • 1 x tremolo claw complete with mounting screws 4.2 x 45 mm and 3 tremolo springs
    • 2 x mounting studs M7 x 0,5 with 2 threaded bushings diameter 10 mm
    • 3 x allen keys (2.0/2.5/3.0 mm)
    • 1 Tremoloblock according to selected length
Together with the 5 new locking nut radii, it can now be customized on different fingerboards. Whether straight or compound radius, with a total of 14 combinations, the new LockMeister system offers a wide range of possibilities. This ensures better playability and more fun while playing the guitar.

Every single part is manufactured with the highest precision at Schaller on CNC machines, for brilliant and precise surfaces and a long service life!

Please note when changing from Schaller tremolo to LockMeister 6:

If you want to change from a Schaller tremolo (with zinc baseplate) to a LockMeister 6 (made of steel) on a guitar, please check in advance whether shorter M4x34 string locking screws are required for LockMeister 6. The body routing for a Schaller tremolo may be smaller than for the LockMeister 6 with 40 mm string locking screws due to the design. The routing does not have to be extended for this, we offer shorter 34 mm string clamping screws that compensate the difference.

See further accessories under replacement kits for tremolos.

    Guitar neck profiles and playability

The neck profile, your own hand, and the fretboard radius determine comfort and playability. A rounder fingerboard conforms more to the natural curvature of the fingers, which is ideal for playing in lower registers, such as chords and barré grips. A flat radius provides a more even playing surface, ideal for bending and faster vertical playing in higher registers, which is often preferred for solos.

About Schaller LockMeister and Original Floyd Rose tremolos

The Schaller LockMeister tremolo is identical to the original Floyd Rose in terms of dimensions, materials and hardening process. This is due to historical reasons, as the Floyd Rose was manufactured by Schaller in Germany from 1980 onwards.

"Floyd Rose Marketing Proudly presents this plaque to Schaller GmbH: With gratitude & appreciation for your continued support in celebration of our 40th Anniversary. Through your continued embrace of our hardware, you have helped to continue the Floyd Rose legacy in the 21st Century. Our sincere thanks for being an excellent partner without whom this anniversary would not be possible. We look forward to many more years of success working together."

It is not for nothing that the US manufacturer's products have long been intensively advertised as “Made in Germany”, with the subtle difference that they are “manufactured with the highest precision from high-quality, hardened steel and a nickel-plated brass sustain block”.

The latest innovations with a greater variety of tremolo and locking nut radii as well as the extended fine tuner screws come, like so many developments, from Schaller itself: The new presentation of the three Pitch Perfect Features took place at the NAMM show in April 2023.
