Schaller S-Locks Classic set (without screws)

S-Locks_341

With Schaller Security Locks, we developed and patented a completely new product in 1981, probably the most secure connection between guitar and strap.
In contrast to our regular S-Lock range, where the strap pin and fastening screw are made of steel in one piece, the S-Lock Classic is the perforated strap pin sleeve, which is fastened via a separate fastening wood screw (not included in scope of delivery).
Both versions offer Schaller's proven quality for securely fastening the strap to instruments such as guitars or basses.

A notice:
Please read the installation guide at the end of this product description before installing the S-Locks!

Concept and features

By viewing the video you agree that your data will be transferred to YouTube and that you have read the Privacy policy.

In the development of the new revolutionary S-Locks we have combined 3 parts to perfection:

  • unique hardened steel strap buttons
  • S-Locks suitable for different belt thickness with ergonomic operation
  • and a patented locking nut - Lock-Wheel - with triple security architecture.

Schaller S-Lock Classic set consisting of:

2 x S-Lock Classic strap buttons (without fastening screws)

  • made of the hardest steel for maximum wear resistance and safety
  • including high-quality felt washers to protect the instrument
  • Dimensions strap buttos same as original security locks: Height: 10mm; Diameter outside: 12mm;
Diameter max. for screw head: 6.8mm; Diameter hole for screw: 3.8mm

These are easy to install using a suitable wood screw (not included in scope of delivery).
Detailed assembly instructions can be found in this product description below.

  • extended thread length for holding straps of up to 6 mm thickness,
  • newly designed slanted locking bolt made of stainless steel for minimum wear and thus maximum safety
  • new design pull-up ball for best haptics
  • suitable for a standard hole in the belt of 10 mm

  • Lock-Wheel with special patent thread ensures a secure hold. It can be tightened safely by hand without tools.
  • The 2-hole mount (suitable for 2 mm Allen key or screwdriver) allows a firmer tightening torque of the Lock-Wheel with maximum hold.
  • Undetachable hold due to grub screw with tapered cap and slot 2.5 x 5 mm made of stainless steel. Simply unscrew the set screw again to unscrew the Lock-Wheel; the thread remains functional and cuts itself "free" again through the Lock-Wheel.

Compatibility Schaller Security Locks and S-Locks

S-Locks are compatible with all existing Schaller Security Locks like this:

  • strap button old SecLock/S-Lock Classic + lock new S-Lock (without silent feature!)
  • strap button new S-Lock + lock old SecLock (only limited, we do not recommend it!)

» Please always use our new Locks for S-Locks with Lock-Wheels for S-Locks on your strap, then you will always be compatible with all strap buttons and at the same time you will always use all the advantages of our new Lock-Wheel.

» Please always make sure that the lock is engaged in the strap button, the lock is attached to the belt in such a way that the strap button is secured in the U-shape of the lock and that the instrument does not rotate.

Assembly instruction Schaller S-Locks:

1.) Assembly of S-Lock Classic strap buttons

  • If there is no hole drilled in the bodywood, choose a suitable drill diameter depending on the type of wood and the suitable wood screw (according to the screw thread inside diameter).
  • If the hole is too large, make it smaller (e.g. with wood glue and a suitable wooden dowel) and drill again.
  • If necessary, countersink separately in the area of the outer lacquer layer (around the drill hole) to prevent the lacquer from flaking off when the suitable wood screw is screwed in.
  • The strap button should sit completely on the wood; if necessary, first flatten the wood.
  • Carefully screw the strap button with felt washer and suitable fastening screw into the existing drill hole. If the strap button is too tight, unscrew it again and gradually drill out the hole in the wood.
  • Tighten the strap pin "hand-tight" until it reaches the body of the instrument. Do not continue to use force. The wood may break, the varnish may flake off and the strap button may break off.

Please note:

» Please check the secure fit of the belt pin in the wood regularly and tighten the screw if necessary or reduce or close an expanded hole and re-drill it as described.

» Do not change the factory dimensions of the S-Locks Classic strap buttons (a change to the purchased item is not a material defect - see Schaller GTC). Any changes to the original product dimensions (e.g. widening of diameters by drilling) will inevitably result in damage to the component and thus the loss of the protective function of the S-Lock.

2.) Assembly of the locks on the belt

Insert the lock through the hole in the strap. The lock is on the inside of your belt and the threaded hole for the lock-wheel on the outside. The open side of the lock (U-shape) points in each direction to the belt, so that the instrument can later safely hang in the lock.
If the hole in the belt is too narrow or there is only one slot in the belt, please cut away a piece of the belt in a circle (10 mm) that the thread can be easily pushed through the lock without the leather parts standing upright. Otherwise, the lock wheel can not be securely fastened and the lock and lock wheel can disengage.

Recommendation:

If necessary, punch a hole of 10 mm in the leather strap with a round hole punch tool, then our S-Lock lock fits exactly through the leather strap and our lock wheel can be optimally screwed on and locked.

3.) Installation of the Lock-Wheels (3-stage safety concept)

1401-1-S-Locks-screw-by-hand-400px

Turn the lock-wheel clockwise onto the thread of the lock. The flat side must point to the belt; the rounded side up! Make sure that the small set screw in the lock-wheel is not screwed inwards and destroys the thread.

1401-2-S-Locks-tighten-by-Allen-key-400px

Use a 2 mm (5/64’’) Allen key or small screwdriver through the 2-hole mount for an even tighter fit of the lock-wheel for maximum grip.

1401-3-S-Locks-attach-permanently-with-micro-cone-top-screw-400px

Screw in the slotted set screw with cone dome (2.5 x 5 mm) with a screwdriver until it stops. This will block the thread and the lock wheel can no longer loosen.

Tip:

  • Please use the Allen key or thin screwdriver to tighten the lock wheel very firmly (level 2) before screwing in the micro screw (level 3).
  • This gives the lock a firm hold and the 3 tapered pins on the inside of the lock penetrate the leather belt and prevent the lock from twisting.
  • Guitar straps made of leather, imitation leather or other materials compact when pressed together. Therefore, the lock-wheel must be tightened again after some time at the beginning.
» Before retightening, always loosen the small grub in the lock-wheel first, otherwise the thread will be damaged.
» By retightening the Lock-Wheel, the three small pins on the lock press into the surface of the strap  and prevent the lock from accidentally twisting on the strap.

To avoid this, please make sure that

  1. you have a circular hole in the belt and, if necessary, punch out what exactly corresponds to the diameter of the threaded neck of the lock;
  2. press the leather strap as tightly as possible in the area of the lock and lock wheels in advance so that you can then tighten the lock wheel more easily and firmly on the lock;
  3. from time to time you tighten the lock wheel again and again until the leather strap is maximally compressed at this point. Always loosen the micro screw beforehand so as not to destroy the thread.
  4. Check the secure seating of the set screw regularly and retighten the set screw if necessary.
  5. To unscrew the lock-wheel, simply loosen the set screw; the thread remains functional, it cuts through the lock-wheel again "free".
  6. Before loosening or retightening the lock-wheel, always unscrew the set screw until it no longer points inwards and damages the thread!

4.) Function of the S-Locks

Pull the lock over the strap button without pulling the ball upwards until the lock clicks into place and the bolt lowers into the strap button. The instrument hangs in the U-shaped lock and is thereby held securely.
Check the secure fit. To do this, try to pull the lock without pulling the ball from the strap button. The lock must remain engaged and must not be pulled down by the strap button. The ball must sit on top of the thread.
To release the lock, pull the ball and pull the lock sideways away from the open side of the lock.

  • Regularly check all parts for possible wear.
  • Retighten all screws in a timely manner.
  • When playing, always check that the lock is securely seated on the strap, that the lock is locked into the strap button, and that the strap button is securely screwed into the instrument.
  • Please always make sure that the lock is engaged in the strap button, the lock is attached to the belt in such a way that the strap button is secured in the U-shape of the lock and that the instrument does not rotate.

There must be a thin gap between the thread of the lock and the pull-up ball. This is sign that the locking bolt is touching the bottom of the strap button and will engage securely before the pull-up ball touches the threaded shaft of the lock. This gives you the assurance that the locking bolt is in the strap button to the maximum.
