Product configurator for the desired GrandTune on your instrument:

  1. Select a surface color such as Nickel, Chrome, BlackChrome, Gold, Ruthenium or SatinPearl to match the rest of the hardware on your instrument.
  2. Next, you will be asked for the model, depending on mounting position and the headstock design. Either "single left" for left-hand arrangement, "single right" for right-hand arrangement, or "3 + 3", each left and right. (see info above right "Definition left and right machine heads").
  3. Now choose from the buttons like Koa, Perloid, Galalith, Ebony, Snakewood or Butterbean (in surface color).
  4. Based on the headstock design and thickness, whether solid with sideways arrangement of the buttons, or slotted with rear arrangement of the buttons, the appropriate length of the posts must be selected. For solid panels, our range offers solid posts with 19.7 or 21.7 mm, for slotted (14.65 mm), string rollers (15.9 mm) and string rollers deluxe (16 mm). More information "How do I find suitable posts for my machine head?" and "Info to posts with images" in the configurator at the top right.

Depending on the headstock design, there are various possibilities for installation in e.g. acoustic and steel string guitars, concert guitars, electric guitars, archtops (jazz/thinline), resonator guitars, ukuleles or mandolins. Please also have a look at our other GrandTune models in the webshop like Classic HauserGTC Hauser (without guide bushings 10 mm)Classic Lyra or for Mandolin (reverse and non reverse).

Scope of supply

  • 2 x mounting screws (each single tuner) (M2.2 x 11)
  • 1 x press-in bushing (each single tuner), hexagonal design, for mounting on solid headstocks, with outer diameter 8.8 mm, inner diameter 6.1 mm, suitable for 6.00 mm posts. Slotted posts are  without bushings!
  • Please note: Always use the original GrandTune bushings. The inner diameter is worked exactly for the 6 mm posts and gives the worm gear an exact alignment. Bushings with a larger inner diameter inevitably destroy the worm gear over time.

Optional accessories: press-in bushings with 8.8 and 10 mm diameter:

Instrument makers and replacement parts manufacturers use different drill hole diameters for headstocks. We offer the most common press-in bushings dimensions in hexagonal, with 8.8 mm, and in round design, with 8.8 and 10 mm here » replacement kits for machine heads.

Expanding the drillhole diameter for press-in bushings:

If the tuner hole is too small, it is recommended to enlarge the diameter to the appropriate size. Always use a reamer to avoid splinters on the surface of the wood, or have the tuner installed by an instrument maker. Reamers for different diameters are available from Stewart MacDonald » Peghead bushing reamers for example.

Advantage of string roller deluxe GT-posts for classical guitars:

The string roller deluxe GT features a special ball bearing at the end oft he post. They eliminate a known problem of classical guitar machine heads and thus allow frictionless and noiseless tuning. Due to the ball bearing diameter of 10.0 mm and the post diameter of 9.8 mm, the post runs freely and unhindered on the bearing inside the headstock drilling. There is no longer any frictional resistance between the post and the wood. Cracking and creaking noises are thus effectively avoided.
